MLCommons has launched the MLPerf Client v0.5 benchmark, establishing a new standard for assessing consumer AI performance. This benchmark allows users and industry professionals to evaluate the effectiveness of laptops, desktops, and workstations in running advanced large language models (LLMs).
Developed in collaboration with major technology companies including AMD, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, the MLPerf Client aims to provide a standardized framework for measuring performance on critical AI tasks. David Kanter, Head of MLPerf at MLCommons, highlighted the importance of this benchmark in enhancing generative AI applications on personal computers.
The MLPerf Client v0.5 includes tests based on Meta's Llama 2 7B model, designed for improved efficiency using 4-bit integer quantization. Key features of the benchmark encompass four tasks: content generation, creative writing, and text summarization, employing metrics such as time-to-first-token and tokens-per-second. It supports hardware-accelerated execution through ONNX Runtime GenAI and Intel OpenVINO, and is currently available for Windows 11 on x86-64 systems, with future updates planned for additional platforms.
This initial release is freely accessible for download from MLCommons.org. MLCommons intends to further enhance the benchmark by integrating additional hardware acceleration paths and a wider array of test scenarios in future updates.
The benchmark is now available for download at MLCommons.org, and detailed information on its hardware and software requirements can also be found on the website.
