U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced nearly $44 million in federal funding for JMA Wireless to enhance its 5G manufacturing capabilities in Syracuse, New York. This investment, part of the bipartisan CHIPS & Science Law, focuses on developing American-made technology for the 5G network.

JMA’s facility is noted as the only major American-owned 5G manufacturing site, adhering to “Buy America” standards established in recent infrastructure legislation. With this new funding streamed through the Wireless Innovation Fund, JMA plans to invest over $75 million to create up to 30 new jobs and improve production lines for 5G equipment.

Schumer emphasized the significance of this investment in maintaining U.S. leadership in 5G technology, which he views as crucial for national security and economic competitiveness against firms like Huawei and ZTE. This funding aims to reinforce America’s capacity for high-speed internet development, enhancing infrastructure across the country.

According to CEO John Mezzalingua, the new Wireless Innovation Fund grant will not only bolster domestic production but also improve the operational efficiencies of next-generation wireless technology. He highlighted the critical role of secure, American-made solutions in maintaining a competitive edge in global telecommunications.

The funds will help JMA manufacture its latest ARMOR platform, which is designed to improve the efficiency and lower costs associated with 5G deployments. This technology aims to not only increase network capacity but also expedite deployment times, thus advancing connectivity across the U.S.

With the investment targeting immediate job creation and potential further expansion based on rising demand from leading wireless carriers, the Syracuse facility is poised to solidify its role in pioneering next-generation 5G solutions while contributing to the local economy.
