Wireless broadband vendor Inseego completed its acquisition of Nokia’s Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) business.
The deal’s closure sees the San Diego-based firm cement its new footprint with an international headquarters in Amsterdam; a development center in Athens, Greece; and an expanded presence in Bangalore, India. Approximately 250 people will carry over from Nokia to support Inseego operations across engineering, product management, supply chain, procurement, and customer support. They will join two Nokia vets recently hired by Inseego to lead India/Asia-Pacific sales and sales across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
Inseego also touted new developments in AI radio access network (AI-RAN), converged fiber, 5G connectivity, network optimization, and distributed edge computing. This will see Inseego work alongside Nokia to explore how the latter’s network infrastructure and Inseego’s edge-based solutions can help develop AI-driven networking and the wireless edge.
Upon closure of the deal, Nokia owns an 11% equity ownership stake in Inseego, representing around 1.9 million shares of Inseego common stock and warrants to snap up an aggregate of up to approximately 800,000 million shares of common stock. The firm also completed a $10 million cash investment in Inseego.
“With the acquisition complete, Inseego enters its next chapter as the global wireless broadband leader," Inseego CEO Juho Sarvikas noted. “We now have the scale, technology, and global reach to support carriers across business, residential, and mobile use cases.”
“This is an important milestone for our customers, our teams, and both companies,” Konstanty Owczarek, chief corporate development officer at Nokia, added. “Inseego brings the focus and expertise to take the FWA business forward. Our continued collaboration brings together our technologies and capabilities that can deliver greater value for our customers.”
