Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) CEO Antonio Neri this week made significant changes to the vendor’s executive ranks and the delivery structure of its GreenLake and Ezmeral cloud platforms in a move that further highlights his focus on HPE’s as-a-service business models.
The most senior shakeup is the impending exit of current CTO Kumar Sreekanti, who joined the company just two years ago. Neri in a statement said Sreekanti will stay on until a new CTO is named, which is expected by next month.
Sreekanti was a co-founder and served as CEO at artificial intelligence (AI) and big data software vendor BlueData, which HPE acquired in late 2018. Prior to forming BlueData, Sreekanti served as VP of research and development at VMware’s Cloud Infrastructure Business Unit.
Neri noted that the to-be-named CTO will oversee a newly formed GreenLake Platform Development team tagged with delivering that platform to the market. GreenLake is HPE’s as-a-service portfolio that Neri has said will house all of the vendor’s products by next year.
More HPE GreenLake, Ezmeral GroupsThere will also be a new GreenLake Cloud Services Solutions group that will be headed by current Aruba COO Vishal Lall and who will report directly to Neri. That group will centralize oversight of HPE’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) teams focused on Ezmeral, its GreenLake Lighthouse zero-trust security project, and workload services.
Ezmeral is HPE’s enterprise platform that is built on top of Kubernetes and unifies HPE’s software portfolio. It allows customers to deploy and manage containerized applications across any infrastructure: bare metal, virtual machines (VMs), public and private clouds, and on HPE and non-HPE hardware. It’s targeted at VMware’s Tanzu platform and Red Hat’s OpenShift platform.
HPE’s current COO John Schultz will also be taking on oversight of two new companywide teams: Service Reliability Engineering and Cloud Services Operations. Those divisions will run HPE’s cloud platforms, services and security functions, and operations for its as-a-service platforms.
Neri also named Keith White to lead the HPE GreenLake Cloud Services Commercial Business group, which drives the as-a-service model through HPE’s sales, partners, and customer success divisions. It also supports GreenLake advisory and profession services and management services groups.
“Together, these updates more closely align key resources and teams to a Cloud Services business and delivery model, all designed to accelerate the delivery of a seamless, unified, and agile customer experience, from edge-to-cloud,” Neri wrote, hinting that there would be more updates coming next month. Those updates could align with HPE’s scheduled release of its third-quarter earnings on Sept. 2.
Diversity Leadership ChangeHPE also announced that Aisha Washington, who is currently head of Workplace Diversity, is replacing Michael Lopez as Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. Washington has been at HPE for just under a year, having spent her previous 15 years at consulting firm PwC. Lopez had been in that position for just over two years.
The executive changes follow on HPE earlier this year losing Aruba President and CEO Keerti Melkote. Neri at that time named Phil Mottram as president of HPE’s Intelligent Edge business. Mottram had been SVP and GM of HPE’s Communications Technology Group.
