Google has powered up its Workspace suite behind the scenes with a new latency boosting solution.

The tech giant is introducing Silent Test mode, which lets users run a large-scale enterprise content delivery network (eCDN), with a focus on its Meet video service.

Google Meet eCDN is promised to save up to 95% of the original bandwidth with peer-assisted media delivery for live streams. The Silent Test mode assists administrators to validate configurations without risk by running wide-ranging eCDN tests using real user profiles and devices distributed across large or worldwide networks.

During large meetings and live streams, Meet eCDN operates in full simulation mode, with live stream clients gathering and reporting real-world data and performance metrics, while viewers continue receiving media directly from Google’s servers. Clients can discover and connect to peers to form Peering Groups, and operate in their client role – Root, Leaf or Branch – in a full peer to peer (P2P) topology.

Administrators will also be able to conduct large-scale network tests by scheduling workload scripts to run seamlessly in the background on users’ devices. These tests can be executed as frequently as required or during off-peak hours, without the need to organize live streams or involve real participants.

The Silent Test feature is on a gradual roll out, specifically for Google Workspace editions Enterprise Standard and Plus, Enterprise Essentials Plus, and Education Plus.
