Fortanix, Inc. released its 2025 State of Data Security in GenAI Report, highlighting key trends in organizational usage and security practices surrounding generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The survey of 1,000 executives found that 97% of companies block or restrict GenAI usage. Nonetheless, 64% of those surveyed access AI tools through personal email accounts. Furthermore, 87% of security executives reported experiencing a data breach within the last year.

The report illustrates a disconnect as 74% of executives feel pressured to deploy GenAI promptly, and 88% have budget allocations set for such technologies. Despite the tight restrictions, 66% of respondents indicated that they utilize GenAI for work-related tasks. Perceived barriers exist, with the majority of Line of Business and IT executives expressing concerns about model accuracy as well as data security and privacy. However, only 56% of security executives noted the same level of pressure associated with GenAI deployment.

Anuj Jaiswal, chief product officer at Fortanix, commented on these findings: “The data clearly shows that nothing is going to stand in the way of organizations moving forward with GenAI deployment this year despite many organizations not fully grasping the complex data security issues surrounding the technology.” He emphasized the need for organizations to adopt a unified platform approach to manage encryption and key management effectively.
