New product enables organizations to make the most of their cloud software investments.

Flexera announced the release of Cloud License Management, a product aimed at helping organizations optimize software costs associated with cloud usage. This tool, built on Flexera’s Technology Intelligence Platform, offers a unified view and actionable insights regarding cloud software spending.

Becky Trevino, Chief Product Officer at Flexera, stated, “For the past three years, cloud spend has been the top ranked cloud challenge for organizations, ahead of security, according to the State of the Cloud report. With cloud software easy to provision and highly distributed, organizations need visibility to answer the simple question: how do we optimize software spend in the cloud? Flexera Cloud License Management provides organizations with confidence to forecast and manage cloud software spend, while ensuring they aren’t paying for things they already own.”

Software running in the cloud may account for a substantial part of an organization’s expenditures, with some estimates indicating it could reach 25%. Many organizations are investing over $12 million annually on public cloud services. If unmonitored, poorly managed software can lead to inflated costs and compliance risks.

Flexera’s Cloud License Management simplifies the complexities of managing cloud software expenses by delivering insights on software running on public cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The product highlights various licensing models like pay-as-you-go (PAYG) and bring-your-own-license (BYOL) options for major software.

Trevino added, “This is our first converged ITAM and FinOps use case on the Technology Intelligence platform – a huge milestone for Flexera, its customers and partners. The recommendations shared in Cloud License Management are possible due to bringing together cloud billing data and software licenses and entitlements on Flexera One.”

Additional features include:

  • View and track cloud software spend: Detailed license usage information by vendor and type allows better management of license usage and forecasting future needs.
  • Connect software license details with entitlement data: Identifying what existing licenses can be leveraged for cloud solutions helps reduce duplicate spending.
  • Support efficient cloud spending: Tools to analyze costs down to individual instances and alert on exceeded budget thresholds to prevent overspending.
