Deutsche Telekom unveiled plans to bundle its cloud offering.

From July, its local German unit Telekom Deutschland and the company’s service provider T-Systems will offer all cloud solutions from one source, under the umbrella name of T Cloud. Included currently are solutions offering cloud connectivity directly from the company's MPLS backbone, and a similarly direct connection between branches, data centers, and other locations to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

With these solutions including cloud at different levels of sovereignty, Deutsche Telekom is positioning the consolidation as a response to the growing call for sovereign solutions in Europe.

That demand has already seen Microsoft and AWS answer the call by launching EU-only entities recently, along with data center giant OVHcloud partnering on sovereign cloud solutions.

The new venture will be helmed by Lars Neumann, SVP for Deutsche Telekom’s Solution Business Unit, who commented: “By bundling all our cloud activities across the entire group under one roof, we can offer every customer the cloud solution that meets their specific requirements – whether public or private.

“This creates the basis for exponential growth. In this way, we will ensure digital sovereignty and support European independence in the global cloud landscape.”

The T Cloud business comes amid increased consolidation in the market; it wasn’t so long ago that the German giant consolidated its wholesale activities. T Wholesale, as established in January, brought Deutsche Telekom’s national and international wholesale activities into a single entity with no apparent leadership changes on the top level.

Similarly, Lars Neumann will head up T Cloud under the continued leadership of Ferri Abolhassan, CEO T-Systems, who stated on the news: “With the T Cloud, we offer our customers tailor-made solutions ‘Made in Germany’ for their specific needs.

“In this way, we are making digital transformation as easy as possible for our customers and at the same time strengthening Europe's sovereignty in the cloud market.”
