Datadog today said it integrated its cloud infrastructure monitoring service with Cloud Foundry’s open-source platform-as-a-service (PaaS).
Cloud Foundry is popular among enterprises to develop and deploy applications, including microservices running in containers. It allows companies to deploy these applications to multiple cloud platforms, both private and public, with no changes to the application.
The new integration with Datadog will allow customers to automatically monitor these environments.
“We’ve seen a fairly large uptick in the interest from Fortune 500, Fortune 100 organizations looking for solutions around how to manage microservices, as well as an uptick in Cloud Foundry among our customers. There was a need to monitor that,” said Ilan Rabinovitch, director of product management at Datadog. “We’re offering an integration that will help operators and owners of Cloud Foundry clusters to monitor the clusters, the health of the clusters, and metrics about the overall performance.”
Datadog’s Cloud Foundry integration works by collecting metrics that determine cluster health by component and by resource consumption. Metrics can be collected from Cloud Foundry components including BOSH, Cloud Controller, Loggregator, Gorouter, and Diego. These metrics can then be visualized so DevOps teams can monitor their performance, identify patterns and anomalies, and create alerts.
Pivotal is a customer. In a statement, Ian Andrews, vice president of product at Pivotal, said the company uses Datadog to monitor Pivotal Web Services, its Cloud Foundry as a service environment. The integration “gives Datadog and Cloud Foundry users an easy, out of the box experience,” he said.
Datadog also integrates with several Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure services.
Earlier this year the cloud monitoring company launched an application performance monitoring (APM) product to allow DevOps teams to monitor code and infrastructure.
While the integration with Cloud Foundry announced today only includes cloud infrastructure monitoring, a future version may offer an APM, Rabinovitch said. “I imagine we will tackle more of the development story in the next release of this integration.”
