SDxCentral Quick HitsAmazon Web Services (AWS) launched the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region, its second region in the Middle East, enabling access to a long list of AWS services in the area.
AWS regions are composed of "availability zones" that lay down infrastructure in separate and distinct geographic locations. The new AWS Middle East (UAE) Region includes three availability zones, and joins the AWS Middle East (Bahrain) Region which opened in July 2019.
The Middle East has two AWS Direct Connect locations in addition to the regions, allowing customers to establish private connectivity between AWS and their data centers and offices, and two Amazon CloudFront edge locations -- one in Dubai and another in Fujairah.
AWS estimates the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region will support an average of 6,000 full-time jobs annually through a planned investment of more than $5 billion in the UAE through 2036. The region will also add an estimated $11 billion over the next 15 years to the UAE’s gross domestic product (GDP), according to AWS.
