Cumulus Networks unloaded a bevy of enhancements to its network operating system today with the release of Cumulus Linux 4.0 and NetQ 2.4.
In addition to the latest Linux kernel and security patches, the fourth iteration of Cumulus Linux widens its hardware support to 134 platforms across 14 ASICs, including Mellanox’s new Spectrum-2 and Broadcom’s Qumran chipsets, as well as Facebook’s Minipack modular campus networking platform.
“We’ve worked closely with Cumulus Networks over the years to expand our integration and help customers tackle modern networking challenges, so Spectrum-2 and WJH with the new Cumulus Linux and NetQ releases is a natural extension of our partnership,” said Amit Katz, VP of ethernet switches at Mellanox, in a statement.
Switch Dev, an open source in-kernel abstraction model, is designed to provide a standardized way to program networking switch ASICs and speed up development times. It also appears in the release alongside improvements to the Cumulus’ Ethernet virtual private network implementation for Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity.
The latest release also adds end-to-end automation features for continuous integration and continuous development including simulation, validation, troubleshooting, and NetDevOps.
“With nearly 10 years of focused development, Cumulus Linux 4.0 is the most reliable, robust, and performant open network operating system for over 2,000 companies like JPMC, PayPal and Qualcomm,” said Josh Leslie, CEO of Cumulus, in a statement.
NetQ 2.4 Grows More CapableAlongside the latest Cumulus Linux release, the company says NetQ 2.4, its network operations toolset, now enables users to more quickly validate and resolve network issues across data centers and campus fabrics by utilizing real-time telemetry data.
Other improvements to NetQ include new deployment models such as an as-a-service delivery option, integration with Mellanox’s What just Happened (WJH) feature — which promises to enable deeper visibility at the packet layer — and increased validation capabilities including closed-loop verification of automated configurations.
Both Cumulus Linux 4.0 and NetQ 2.4 are available today.
