AI cloud firm CoreWeave has debuted an object storage product built for AI model development.

CoreWeave AI Object Storage is a scaling solution for AI workloads based on large colocated datasets beyond the reach of conventional cloud storage.

CoreWeave touted the tool as allowing instant access to a single database regardless of its location, removing the need for egress charges or request and transaction fees that come part and parcel with cloud usage.

The storage service is driven by private interconnects, direct cloud peering, and 400-Gb/s-capacity ports. Underpinning it is CoreWeave’s Local Object Transport Accelerator (LOTA) technology, described as an intelligent proxy found on each GPU Node in a CoreWeave Kubernetes cluster to spur up data transfer.

Early adopters of CoreWeave AI Object Storage include machine learning firm Replicate and AI inference startup Tensormesh.

“We are rethinking storage from the ground up. We’ve built a system where data is no longer confined by geography or cloud boundaries, giving developers the freedom to innovate without friction or hidden costs [shifting] how AI workloads operate,” said Peter Salanki, co-founder and chief technology officer at CoreWeave.

“With CoreWeave’s cross-cloud capabilities in CoreWeave AI Object Storage, we can rely on a single dataset to support models no matter where they’re deployed. This eliminates replication overhead, removes egress costs, and ensures our users always have high-performance access to the data they need to innovate,” added Morgan Fainberg, principal engineer at Replicate.

This follows CoreWeave's newly announced partnerships with tech giants Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft, as well as AI inference and training firm Run AI.

CoreWeave’s networking backbone is provided by Nokia, built using the FP5-based Nokia 7750 Service Router (SR), which offers speeds of 800 Gb/s and Ethernet VPN (EVPN) support, and Nokia’s high-performance Service Router Operating System (SROS).

CoreWeave saw revenue of $1.2 billion for the second quarter of this year, up 207% year-over-year, according to the firm's most recent earnings report. As a result, CoreWeave raised its full-year revenue guidance to $5.15-$5.35 billion.
