Bell Canada and Cisco agreed to collaborate on sovereign AI and digital infrastructure solutions for Canadian organizations.

The tie-up will combine Bell's AI Fabric end-to-end AI solutions and service suite with Cisco's networking, security, and infrastructure technologies, seeing Cisco solutions deployed through a sovereign deployment model managed by the operator within Canada.

Bell said the venture gives local organizations more confidence over where critical workloads are run and how they are secured, while helping to scale AI adoption through flexible consumption models and with full Canadian sovereignty over infrastructure and operations.

The two firms will assess how Cisco AI point of delivery (POD) infrastructures can work in tandem with local infrastructure, connectivity, and operations services. This will include integration of Cisco’s Sovereign Critical Infrastructure service, of a which localized Canadian version was released last August.

This is not too dissimilar to fellow Canadian operator's Telus deployment of a sovereign Nvidia AI factory last year. Chris Madan, product VP and head of Telus AI Factories, told this title that under the U.S. CLOUD Act, data stored on American cloud providers, even when physically in Canada, can be compelled by U.S. authorities. As such, Canadian customers are clamoring for infrastructure that's under genuine Canadian jurisdiction and control.

“True sovereignty, and the trust that comes with it, requires end-to-end control across every layer of the technology stack,” Madan explained.
