Astera Labs has launched Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches designed for PCI Express (PCIe) 6-ready NVIDIA Blackwell-based MGX platforms. These switches feature a modular design aimed at enhancing performance and scalability in Artificial Intelligence (AI) server environments. The new offering supports rapid deployment across various NVIDIA MGX configurations, meeting the demands of evolving AI infrastructure.
Mike Hendricks, Associate VP of Solutions and Ecosystem at Astera Labs, emphasized the importance of flexible server platforms in the rapidly changing AI landscape, stating, “Our Scorpio P-Series Fabric Switch is purpose-built for AI servers and seamlessly integrates with the NVIDIA Blackwell-based MGX platform, enabling modular PCIe 6.x-ready designs that accelerate time-to-market and deliver unparalleled performance for next-generation AI systems.”
Customers can utilize Astera Labs’ accelerated test and interop development kit, which includes whitepapers, reference designs, comprehensive SDKs, and extensive interoperability and performance testing resources. Patrick Moorhead, CEO of Moor Insights & Strategy, highlighted the need for seamless connectivity as AI workloads increase, stating, “I believe Astera Labs is leading the charge in modular connectivity to harness these capabilities with its Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches.”
Astera Labs has made available design-in collateral for customers to integrate the Scorpio P-Series, which is noted as the industry's first PCIe 6 fabric switch, into their MGX platform designs. This integration facilitates customizable AI and cloud servers, optimizing data ingestion and GPU utilization while supporting a wide ecosystem of partners validated in the Cloud-Scale Interop Lab.
The Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches are set to be showcased at NVIDIA GTC 2025, where attendees can observe the interoperability with NVIDIA Blackwell technology.
