That challenge will rely heavily on IBM’s Red Hat business unit, which also received a new leader.

“As the 5G edge unfolds, we’ll start to see more of a marriage between the telcos and hyperscale clouds,” said Nick McQuire, SVP at CCS Insight.

AT&T saw a 700% SD-WAN surge; VMware, FBI warned of cybercriminals targeting teleworkers; and SDxCentral's weekly wrap podcast.

The work is based on the carrier's Conducktor internal Kubernetes platform.

The vendor's Managed Apps platform can oversee 10 cloud-native systems, including database and logging, monitoring, and alerting applications.

The application performance monitoring service launches less than a year after the company acquired SignalFx and Omnition.

VMware withdrew FY21 guidance citing coronavirus concerns; Kubernetes 1.18 ramped up Windows support; and NS1 CISO dished on disaster recovery.

Kubernetes 1.18 features 38 “enhancements” that include a “kubectl debug” command, improved support for Windows, and multiple extensions to the CSI.

Microsoft sunk its teeth deeper in 5G with Affirmed acquisition; Cisco Networking learned lessons during COVID-19; and Huawei boosted its R&D budget.

The platform is based on the Knative project, which continues to be a lightning rod of controversy in the serverless ecosystem.

The adoption is another block in CFF's path-building toward Kubernetes.

The report lauded those two giants for their extensive services and support, which continues to dominate smaller players like Google, IBM, Oracle, and Alibaba.

The company has posted a 100% year-over-year increase in revenue during the past four years, and has more than doubled its customer base each of those years.

The job cuts include nearly 400 Cisco employees and 151 Hitachi Vantara employees.

The work is targeted at bridging the gap between VNFs that typically run on virtual machines (VMs) and CNFs that run in containerized environments.

The vendor will put the new funding toward accelerating innovation that will drive Kubernetes acceptance to become the compute standard.

Operators responded to expected network impacts from the Coronavirus; Oracle Cloud surged in Q3; and SD-WAN vendors targeted SMBs.

The vendor has a twofold strategy to address multiple orchestration and enterprise challenges in Kubernetes as telecommunication architectures migrate into the cloud-native space.

Jeff Barr, chief evangelist for AWS, noted that it “includes only the packages that are needed” and “integrates with existing container orchestrators.” Think Kubernetes.

Amazon, Apple convened for COVID-19 response at White House; Microsoft defeated Necurs Botnet; and Hitachi Vantara skimmed Containership’s assets.

Containership sank last fall after failing to monetize its Kubernetes distribution.

Cisco dreamed of 5G WAN; VMware's modern application strategy spun Kubernetes Goldilocks tale; and HPE’s 5G core went cloud native.

The vendor has a unique opportunity to help make the code-to-cloud space incredibly efficient, simple, and cost effective, according to Docker Inc.'s Justin Graham.

A series of deals indicates that incumbent vendors like Nokia still have an important, and potentially unavoidable, role to play in modern network architecture.
