The companies claim the new network infrastructure will lay a foundation for Equinix to deploy 5G services requiring low latency, high capacity, and automation.

“TIP is about the process of changing the system — systemic change," TIP Executive Director Attilio Zani said.

Governments are projected to spend $14.7 billion globally on IoT this year, earmarking $6.7 billion or 45.6% for outdoor surveillance.

“Our goal is to not just have servers, storage, and IoT, but 5G telco and provide them an open architecture using open x86 hardware,” CEO Charles Liang said.

BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, and Vodafone outlined a "collective need” for an open framework based on generic hardware and software with open APIs.

“When you have cloud-native capabilities, it’s very easy to change some microservices or some capabilities without impacting the whole chain," Dish Network's Marc Rouanne said.

The operator is hitting its stride on 5G network deployments amid some shifts in the Japanese telecommunications market.

Arista continues to invest in its campus portfolio with research and development primarily occurring in the automation and analytics areas of CloudVision.

The Japanese telecommunications giant already owns 66% of the mobile operator, which it spun off in 1991.

“We have now deployed a next generation IP MPLS core routing platform into our production network based on this open software,” AT&T CTO Andre Fuetsch said.

Parallel Wireless, one of Mavenir’s strongest competitors in the open RAN market, previously claimed to be the only open RAN vendor with 2G and 3G capabilities.

“We're not quite there yet with all the pieces in the open RAN," said Ian Hood, chief technologist at Red Hat.

“The second half of 2020 is increasingly looking like it may be worse than the first," MTN Consulting's Matt Walker said.

“The stakes of this are high, and 5G will determine whether the next Google, Apple, Amazon, and Uber of the world is created here in the U.S. or abroad,"

“We’re going to start deploying later this year and we’re definitely going to scale standalone in June 2021,” AT&T's Igal Elbaz said.

The chipmaker claims the new products are in response to pervasive IoT challenges around edge complexity, cost, and impacts on the environment.

The deployment, which debuted in Atlanta and Pittsburgh, will eventually reach nationwide scale but not until Vapor IO completes its colocation installations around the country.

“We’ll get to open RAN when the time is right and the opportunity makes sense for us," T-Mobile's Neville Ray said.

The cloud-based messaging and IoT vendor declined to share more details about the allegations, but the abrupt departure followed an investigation by the company’s board.

The Pentagon appears to be, at least in concept, open to all manner of frameworks and management platforms that would allow its spectrum to be used for 5G deployment.

“Cradlepoint represents a critical segment that will become increasingly important in the 5G era and beyond,” Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm said.

AT&T hit the long sought after target either three months early or nine months late, based on a series of previously contradictory executive statements.
