Fujitsu networking subsidiary 1Finity launched an open optical line system (OLS) designed to optimize managed fiber services.

1Finity touted the Ultra Optical System L1000/L2000 OLS as ensuring reliable scalability for data center interconnect (DCI), metro, and long-haul transport, with an optimized direct attach architecture ensuring high-capacity, peak performance of 800 Gb/s (800G) and higher speeds while decreasing power and space, scaling from 1 to 16 degrees across continuous C+L bands.

Under the hood, integrated tools provide fiber connectivity validation, optimized wavelength design and planning, as well as advanced diagnostics for proactive maintenance and rapid issue resolution.

Its design also boasts multirail transmission support, ensuring long-term power and space efficiency, and an open wavelength selective switch (WSS) for smoother operations. 1Finity claimed that with such performance aiding reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers (ROADM) interoperability, its OLS can help with cost reduction and greater network element selection, utilizing modular building blocks for various transport modes – useful attributes in the ongoing AI scale out, according to Hideki Matsui, SVP and head of 1Finity's Photonics System Business Unit.

“The Ultra Optical System L1000/L2000 OLS empowers communication service providers (CSPs), hyperscalers, and cloud providers to reliably deliver optimized, managed fiber services, and core optical infrastructure from the same simple, compact design that fits anywhere,” Matsui said. “Providing open, performance-optimized and reliable connectivity, this next-generation optical line system ensures a scalable foundation for evolving network demands, empowering growth for the AI era and beyond.”

1Finity's L1000/L2000 system marks the first major open OLS from the firm since spinning out of Fujitsu last summer, merging together several of the Japanese giant’s units, including its network service engineering, telecoms networks, and Mobile Techno groups.

The firm offers optical and wireless hardware, along with software and services, with former NTT Group veteran and Fujitsu SEVP Masaaki Moribayashi serving as its CEO.
