T-Mobile US is reportedly cutting engineering jobs in the latest move by the carrier to squeeze costs out of its operations. The cuts come on the heels of the carrier boosting financial expectations for the year, spending billions of dollars on new spectrum, and announcing an ambitious cellular-satellite partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

As first reported by Fierce Wireless, which cited reports on The Layoff website, T-Mobile US made the cuts to its networking business. The specific number of cuts was not revealed, but a T-Mobile US comment to Fierce Wireless said the cuts were part of its “continued organizational shifts.” Read more. 

Tech’s diversity problem is no secret, and many of the industry’s underrepresented workers concordantly describe the feeling of being the only one in the room: “the loneliness of onlyness,” as Vijay Pendakur, global head of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), at VMware, described it. 

Pendakur joined VMware this summer, bringing two decades of experience in DE&I across postsecondary education and nonprofit sectors – including as the presidential advisor for Diversity and Equity at Cornell University.

His first role in the space was straight out of college where he had no expectations of it flowering into a career, but he found a budding passion through “the idea that meaningful inclusion is – one an imperative – but [it’s] actually how you let people do the best work of their lives,” Pendakur explained to SDxCentral. Verizon Business rearranged its executive structure to increase its focus on growth, a move coming just months after it hired a new segment leader.

The latest changes include naming Aparna Khurjekar as its new chief revenue office of business markets and software-as-a-service (SaaS) with its Connect and BlueJeans operations. Khujekar previously served as president of Verizon Business Markets and has been with the carrier for more than 13 years.

Verizon Business also named Massimo Peselli as its chief revenue officer for its global enterprise and public sector. Peselli previously served as SVP for global enterprise at the division. Read more.
