Cisco Security Shakeup: Rittenhouse Out, Shankar In

Cisco shook up its leadership with an announcement that its current security chief Gee Rittenhouse will leave, and Shaila Shankar, who heads the cloud and network security team, will take over the company’s $3.3 billion business unit.

Shaila Shankar, Cisco’s SVP and GM of cloud and network security, will assume Rittenhouse’s former role “effective immediately,” Patel wrote.

“Her background in cloud security combined with her deep expertise in building and designing products makes her the perfect leader to take our business to the next level as we transform security industry wide,” he added. “We are thrilled that Shaila will be the first woman to run Cisco’s security business in an industry that needs far more talent like her.”

Secureworks CEO Wendy Thomas Plans XDR Domination

Secureworks CEO Wendy Thomas has two goals for the cybersecurity vendor. One involves leading a $40-billion market. The other addresses a more existential crisis that has plagued the industry for years. And both play to the managed security services provider’s 20-plus years of threat intelligence and research.

“My primary goal is to be the XDR platform of choice, period, full stop,” said Thomas, who took the reins earlier this month following former Secureworks CEO Michael Cote’s retirement.

“The second one is to address the security skills shortage by enabling others to leverage that platform at scale,” she added.
