VMware Names Raghuram as CEO While Poonen ExitsVMware named Rangarajan (Raghu) Raghuram as its new CEO. Raghuram, the company’s current EVP and COO of products and cloud services, moved into his new chief executive role on June 1.
The virtualization giant also announced that Sanjay Poonen, VMware’s COO for customer operations, “made the personal decision” to leave VMware after seven years with the company. Both Raghuram and Poonen were considered frontrunners for the chief executive post.
Raghuram replaces Pat Gelsinger, who left VMware earlier this year to return to Intel as its CEO. During the interim, CFO Zane Rowe served as acting CEO.
Nutanix CEO Talks Layoffs, Wins Against VMwareNutanix posted earnings and revenue beats during the third quarter of fiscal 2021, and on a conference call with investors CEO Rajiv Ramaswami touted his company’s “healthy, year-over-year increase in our win rate against our largest competitor.”
Ramaswami didn’t name that competitor, but he’s talking about VMware, where he served as a COO before moving over to Nutanix’s chief executive post in December.
Also on the earnings call, Ramaswami said Nutanix cut its global headcount by about 2.5 percent, primarily sales and marketing jobs, as it continues its transition to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) and subscription business model. “We expect this action to yield approximately $50 million in annual savings,” he said.
