SDxCentral Quick Hits Telefónica and Qualcomm Team on XR, MetaverseTelefónica and Qualcomm announced they will collaborate to develop and grow the extended reality (XR) ecosystem by leveraging the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform and Telefónica’s fixed and mobile network infrastructure. The two companies said the partnership hopes to "strengthen their position in the future of XR and the Metaverse."
Qualcomm's platform Snapdragon Spaces allows developers to use wearable augmented reality (AR) using cross-device software development kit (SDK) and an open XR ecosystem.
"Telefónica sees many possibilities in combining immersive devices with powerful networks and decentralized Web3 technologies," the company said in an announcement. "This agreement opens the opportunity to deliver new experiences to customers merging the digital and analogue worlds, re-imagining commerce, entertainment, and communication in the Metaverse."
Both companies are working to bring Snapdragon Spaces to initiatives part of the Telefónica Innovation and Talent Hub, such as its core and open innovation programs and the computer programming campus 42.
Alibaba to Invest $1B in Cloud Over Next Three YearsAlibaba announced an investment of $1 billion "for a global partner ecosystem upgrade" to support innovation and market expansion in next three years. The company, which accounts for 34% of China’s cloud service providers market, also launched an accelerator program to provide partners operating in different markets with a localized business collaboration model.
"Partners have always been a key focus for Alibaba Cloud, and we are committed to providing them with strong support for our ongoing co-creation and value-add – both technologically and commercially – to further empower our joined customers," Selina Yuan, international president of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said in an announcement.
The investment was one of the announcements made at the 2022 Alibaba Cloud Summit, where Alibaba also announced its Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) 2.0, a new cloud distributed cloud container platform, and a cloud-native multi-model database called Lindorm.
