SDxCentral Quick HitsQualcomm, GlobalFoundries Extend Chip Agreement — Qualcomm Technologies and semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries will more than double their existing global long-term manufacturing agreement to support U.S. chips supply through 2028.
The news follows the recent passage of the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act last week, and was announced today at a CEO Summit co-hosted by GlobalFoundries, Ford Motor Company, and Applied Materials in Washington, D.C.
The Summit included CEOs and senior leaders from across the semiconductor supply chain, including National Economic Council Director Brian Deese; Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainability William LaPlante; and National Security Council Senior Director for Technology and National Security Tarun Chhabra.
The renewed commitment between Qualcomm Technologies and GlobalFoundries will expand “global capacity to meet customer demand in partnership with federal and local governments,” the companies stated.
The agreement will secure wafer supply, necessary in semiconductor manufacturing, and commitments to “support U.S.-based manufacturing through capacity expansion at GF’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility, in Malta, New York."
