Oracle Slashes U.S. Workers — Software giant Oracle started cutting an unspecified amount of jobs in its U.S. workforce Monday. Rumors of job cuts had been circling as Oracle started to refocus its stance on cloud investments, but “management said the positions were safe,” a former employee told Bloomberg.

Among those let go are marketing and customer analytics workers.

Oracle has begun to make deeper investments in cloud business with the social media platform TikTok — one of Oracle’s newest cloud customers.

Although an attempted deal between the two platforms was in the works last Fall, it fell through after the Trump Administration banned U.S. companies from doing business with TikTok. Both Oracle and TikTok still pursued a deal to shift TikTok’s U.S. data to Oracle Cloud, secured last month.

The company also dipped its toe in health care to fast-track its cloud computing services, a strategic move to compete with Amazon Web Services. Earlier this year, Oracle purchased Cerner Corp., a digital medical records provider, for $28.3 billion to attract customers in cloud database technology.

Oracle’s stock was trading down 1.34% at $76.40 at the close of the market today.
