Cyber Stocks Reveal a ‘Hit or Miss’ Climate — Investor’s Business Daily (IBD) ranks the computer-software security industry only No. 108 out of 197 groups tracked as of Wednesday, a figuratively low rank considering views that cybersecurity stocks are in a good position if the U.S. economy falls into a recession. 

The IBD security group dipped around 23% in 2022, a figure that under-performs the S&P 500 by 9%. However, some cybersecurity stocks are hanging on.

Palo Alto Networks had better-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter earnings — the company’s stock gained back 2% in 2022, which attributes to its expansion on cloud-based services and acquisitions. Palo Alto has spent over $3 billion in the past three years on 10 acquisitions. 

Fortinet’s second-quarter earnings had steady revenue and billings but forecasted a slight dip for September sales —  the forecast of $1.12 billion fell below the estimated $1.13 billion. 

Crowdstrike expects to report earnings on Aug. 30, Okta on Aug. 31, and Zscaler on Sept. 8.
