Riverbed CEO Retires

Jerry Kennelly, CEO and co-founder of Riverbed, retired. Kennelly will remain in an advisory role to his successor Paul Mountford through the end of April.

Mountford joined Riverbed four years ago as its senior vice president and chief sales officer. Prior to joining Riverbed, he served as the CEO of web intelligence startup Sentillian, and he spent 16 years at Cisco in a number of senior leadership roles.

Manoj Leelanivas Returns to Juniper

Juniper Networks named Manoj Leelanivas as its executive vice president and chief product officer. He will report directly to Juniper CEO Rami Rahim.

For the past four years, Leelanivas served as the president and CEO of Cyphort, which developed a security analytics platform based on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).

Before joining Cyphort, Leelanivas worked for Juniper for 14 years in a variety of leadership roles including executive vice president (EVP) of worldwide sales, EVP and GM of the company's software business group, and the SVP and GM of Juniper's edge and data center unit.

Juniper has seen a decline in earnings the past few quarters with rising competition and market shifts. While Rahim and the company remain optimistic, the shareholders have not shared their confidence.

Microsoft Reorganizes

In shifting its focus to intelligent edge and AI, Microsoft made a number of changes to its company structure. Primarily, it split its Windows Devices Group into two new engineering groups, and Terry Myerson, who has been with the company for 21 years, stepped down from his role overseeing the Windows Devices Group.

Rajesh Jha, formerly an executive with the company's Office group, will head one team focused on experiences and devices. In this division, Panos Panay will be chief product officer.

The current head of the Microsoft Azure platform, Scott Guthrie, will oversee the second group. This group will focus on cloud and AI platforms. Jason Zander was promoted to executive vice president of Azure and will oversee the Windows platform team.

Eric Boyd will lead an additional new team that will focus on the company's AI Cognitive Services and Platforms; and Alex Kipman will lead a new AI perception and mixed reality team.

Movers and Shakers

Dell Technologies’ Chief Marketing Officer Jeremy Burton left the company. Allison Drew, senior marketing executive, was named to the role.

Jenni Flinders was named vice president of worldwide channels at VMware.

Cisco hired Gerri Elliott, formerly a leader at IBM, Microsoft, and Juniper, as its executive vice president and CMO. It also named Maria Martinez, former CEO of Embrace Networks, as its executive vice president and chief customer experience officer.

Ericsson once again made changes to its executive team. CTO Erik Ekudden will remain CTO, but was also appointed as senior vice president; Ericsson’s SVP and Chief Legal Officer Nina Macpherson retired; and Xavier Dedullen was appointed to take Macpherson’s position.

Former General Electric executive Mark Begor joined Equifax as chief executive and was named to the company’s board. It’s the second change to this position since a massive data breach last September.

The Industrial Internet Consortium elected its leadership board. Dirk Slama, VP of business development at Bosch Software Innovations, was named chair; CEO of Real-Time Innovations Stan Schneider was elected vice chair; Wael William Diab, Huawei senior director, was named secretary; and Dell EMC technology lead of IoT and AI Said Tabet was elected testbed subcommittee chair.

Jim Ensell was appointed chief marketing officer of Platform9.

President and CEO of Lattice Semiconductor Darin Billerbeck retired from his role and stepped down from the company’s board. The company named COO Glen Hawk as interim CEO.

Facebook Chief Information Security Officer Alex Stamos will leave the company by August, following security and data scandals at the company.

Robert Shore was promoted to senior vice president of global sales enablement at Coriant.

David Amzallag, the previous head of network virtualization, software-defined networking (SDN), and network functions virtualization (NFV) at Vodafone, joined Artinet as a special strategic advisor.

Artificial intelligence software provider Moogsoft hired Ranvir Wadera as its vice president, and it named Udi Gotlieb its vice president of product marketing.

Gigamon hired Michelle Hodges, formerly at Riverbed, as its vice president of worldwide sales.

Bernd Hesse, Cloud provider Calix senior director of technology development, was elected to the Broadband Forum's board of directors.

Chris Liddell, an ex-executive at Microsoft, was named deputy to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Cloud management company CloudHealth hired Ed Filippine as its chief revenue officer.

DevOps software company SignalFx appointed Marzena Fuller as its chief security officer and Mark Resnick as its chief financial officer.

Digital communications company Lionbridge hired Ken Watson, formerly of Microsoft and Ipreo, as its CTO.

Solomon Hykes, the CTO and co-founder of Docker, stepped down from his position.

Nokia will cut 353 jobs in Finland, primarily from its networking and technology units.

Apple poached Google’s AI Chief John Giannandrea.
