Rubrik co-founder and CEO Bipul Sinha strongly denied a report that the data management unicorn is looking for a buyer.
According to The Information, two people with direct knowledge of the matter claim that Sinha has held preliminary talks with large tech companies.
But Sinha says otherwise.
“This story is completely false. I want to make it unequivocally clear that Rubrik is not for sale. We are committed to building a long-lasting, independent company,” Sinha wrote in a blog post.
The two unnamed sources suggest an imminent buyout due to a drop in sales growth and a shrinking market.
Sinha rebutted this claim citing a 70% growth increase in customers and a doubling down on new hires. "How can we grow our customer base by 70 percent if the market opportunity doesn't exist," he wrote. "Why would we hire 800 people? Our business is stronger than ever. We are focused on growing a long-lasting company."
Rubrik has been a leader in cloud data management since entering the space five years ago. Earlier this year it scored a lucrative Series E funding round that raked in $261 million and pushed its valuation to $3.3 billion.
Rubrik began its “second act” last April, launching its software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for data management applications. The software allows companies to manage all of its data from a central dashboard and build new data management applications on top of the SaaS platform.
According to one of the unnamed sources cited in The Information report, Rubrik’s business could be of interest to companies such as Cisco, IBM, Google, Microsoft, and NetApp, which recently teamed up with the vendor to integrate Rubrik’s Cloud Data Management platform with its enterprise-grade storage platform, StorageGRID.
