The Open Networking Summit's conference is now under the auspices of The Linux Foundation.

The Foundation is announcing today that ONS 2016, which is slated to take place March 14-17 in Santa Clara, California, is now part of its events portfolio.

One of the first communities to form around SDN, the ONS is looking to broaden its open source horizons with the new arrangement. By combining their expertise, ONS and The Linux Foundation seek to further advance the growth of open source projects and services for the benefit of service providers, cloud providers, and enterprises.

ONS, the organization behind the ONS conference, will now work more closely with Linux Foundation projects including ONOS (which was folded into The Linux Foundation in October), the OpenDaylight Project, IOVisor, and OPNFV — and with non-Linux Foundation projects such as OpenDataPlane, Open vSwitch, and P4.

ONS, founded in 2011 by Stanford professor Nick McKeown and U.C. Berkeley professor Scott Shenker, focuses on the development of SDN, NFV, and OpenFlow.
