Nutanix today said it scored a deal worth more than $20 million with an agency in the U.S. Department of Defense — the largest win in the company’s history. The deal closed in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2018.

The customer will use Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform software to operate 15 remote sites running two different networks. It chose Nutanix because its platform proved reliable and resilient at the edge, according to the software vendor.

The federal agency’s previous product “was crippled by power losses and complex operations,” according to Nutanix, which didn’t name the previous vendor. These power losses cost the IT teams hours as they worked to avoid losing data, and they hurt operations near the sites, Nutanix said.

This Nutanix win was one of five worth more than $1 million in the U.S. federal vertical and one of 46 worth more than $1 million overall in the fourth quarter. The company says about 350 government agencies have deployed its software stack.

Nutanix CEO Dheeraj Pandey referenced the $20-plus million deal on an earnings call with investors on Aug. 30. At the time he didn’t say the customer was an agency in the U.S. Department of Defense. He did, however, say it was an existing Nutanix customer.

According to the company’s website, the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, Department of the Navy, U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. Intelligence Community are customers.

While customers can already run Nutanix’s software stack at edge locations, the company is also developing a new edge platform, code-named Sherlock.
