Lookout launched a new security coalition, the Post-Perimeter Security Alliance, with partners Google Cloud, VMware, BlackBerry (which recently acquired endpoint security startup Cylance), Okta, and SentinelOne.
The group will tackle a major security challenge for enterprises: how to integrate security capabilities across endpoint, cloud, and identity to protect access to corporate data while enabling productivity.
“Mobile devices, SaaS, and cloud computing have changed the world,” said Marc Jaffan, Lookout’s vice president of business and corporate development, in an email. “Today people work from anywhere and access corporate data from devices that can’t always be trusted. Yet rising expectations of user privacy are making it more difficult to protect devices, presenting an attractive target for malicious actors who realize traditional perimeter security can’t stop them.”
This is why security services must move to the endpoint, and access to data must be based on zero-trust, he added. “At its core, post-perimeter security is made up of three distinct, but connected puzzle pieces: endpoint protection, access to cloud, and identity.”
The founding companies come from these three sectors, and they will work to educate the market on how to integrate existing endpoint, cloud access, and identity products.
Endpoint protection must span fixed and mobile devices, and must integrate with identity and access management solutions and/or cloud-based applications to continuously assess and remediate risks, Jaffan said.
“For example, Google Cloud Identity enables admins to easily manage users, devices, and applications securely from one console with native multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and mobile device management,” he said. “By integrating with Lookout, admins can also ensure that devices are healthy enough to connect to SSO, automate detection and remediation of apps that violate security policies, and isolate the device from the corporate network if it violates policies.”
The group plans to add more partners, and alliance members will demonstrate how their products and services work together to secure enterprises at the Lookout RSA Conference booth this week.
