Expel has announced an expansion of its security information and event management (SIEM) solutions, introducing a new low-cost data lake offering. This initiative aims to assist customers in navigating compliance and data storage requirements, while also strengthening overall security.

As organizations manage growing cybersecurity risks amid tighter budgets and a skilled labor shortage, Expel's updated offerings seek to provide efficiency and measurable security outcomes. “With tighter budgets and a cyber talent shortage contending with the rising number of security products, organizations need more efficiencies from their tech stack for measurable security outcomes that prove ROI,” said Yonni Shelmerdine, Chief Product Officer of Expel.

The enhancements to Expel managed detection and response (MDR)’s SIEM capabilities will include the ability for customers to provision a low-cost data lake and/or a comprehensive cloud SIEM product. This ranges from new integrations to advanced support for existing SIEM tools, and significant features will roll out with Google Security Operations and Palo Alto XSIAM in early 2025.

Expel’s collaboration with Sumo Logic aims to broaden data analytics solutions, ensuring both cost-effectiveness and efficiency while addressing compliance needs for regulations such as the Payment card industry (PCI) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Testimony from industry experts highlights the importance of these enhancements. Seth Williams from Sumo Logic commented on their partnership's role in advancing security operations, while IDC's Craig B. Robinson noted that the changes reflect the urgent need for organizations to balance security efficacy with budget constraints.
