Big Switch Networks today announced the availability of BSN Labs, its online portal that allows users to trial its software-defined networking (SDN) products. BSN Labs offers instantaneous access to Big Switch products — like Big Cloud Fabric and Big Tap Monitoring Fabric — through a hands-on demo environment within the cloud.
Initially, BSN Labs was intended only for internal employees. But as BSN Labs was talked up more and more with customers, the idea went somewhat viral, says Doug Murray, Big Switch CEO. “By November, we had about 100 people requesting access out of nowhere.” Two weeks into the new year, more than 200 requests had come in to experience BSN Labs, he says.
Network architects and administrators now have an easy way to dive into using production-ready SDN products from Big Switch. Basic training modules are intended to take less than an hour to complete, giving users quick access.
Featuring simulated Ethernet switch fabric topologies, BSN Labs lets users provision, manage, and troubleshoot networking connectivity and policy rules from a central SDN controller tapped via a graphical interface or a command-line interface. The latest controller software is also available as part of the three modules currently available, including: Intro to Big Cloud Fabric, Intro to Big Tap Monitoring Fabric, and OpenStack Integration with Big Cloud Fabric.
