AT&T Cybersecurity today released its first and only FedRAMP-approved product, AT&T Threat Detection and Response for Government.
The offering is built on AT&T’s Unified Security Management (USM) platform that combines threat detection, incident response, and compliance management, but takes things further to meet FedRAMP requirements. FedRAMP is the U.S. government’s program designed to provide a standard approach to security assessment among government agencies using cloud services.
“There are distinct security controls that must be met to be authorized at each FedRAMP level — low, moderate, or high. AT&T Threat Detection and Response for Government is authorized at FedRAMP moderate,” Brandon Pearce, assistant VP at AT&T Cybersecurity, wrote in response to questions.
Pearce explained that the new offering is "similar to AT&T’s USM Anywhere platform but operates from a different cloud environment (AWS GovCloud), has U.S.-based support, is on the Department of Homeland Security’s Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) approved product list, and is proven to meet enhanced requirements of FedRAMP Moderate and NIST 800-171."
While the product operates from Amazon Web Services’ GovCloud, it can also be integrated into Microsoft Azure Government or Google Cloud’s government cloud environments, he added. This allows federal, state, and local government agencies to “detect and respond to threats for customer assets hosted within those areas,” Pearce wrote.
AT&T Cybersecurity’s USM practice was formed following the 2018 acquisition of Alien Vault. It also offers a consulting practice and manages security services on a cloud-based platform with about 40 third-party vendor services.
“As state and federal governments transform to using digital technologies, they are facing increasing digital risks and budget constraints while needing to protect critical assets including data, applications, systems, and endpoints,” Marth Vazquez, senior research analyst at IDC, said in a statement.
“The pandemic showed the ability of agencies to incorporate work-from-home scenarios, which are made easier with cloud access. AT&T Threat Detection and Response for Government allows agencies and commercial customers maintaining FedRAMP standards the ability to monitor and protect their operations in the cloud,” Pearce said.
AT&T recently won a 12-year, $231 million contract with the U.S. Treasury and a 12-year, $175 million contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
