There isn't one single answer to the switching needs of enterprise and hyperscale networks, so Arista Networks is casting its net wide and introducing five new 7050X4 series switches with support up to 800G, VP of Platform Product Management Martin Hull told SDxCentral. "With the latest technology shift to an 800G interface, we're now able to build and produce two 32-port 800G systems," he said.

And while these updates don't qualify as "new innovations," they represent an evolution in support of product consistency. "We're not bringing out an all new product with an all new operating system. Customers like the consistency that allows them to insert new technology into their environment without breaking their current networks," he explained.

Arista unveiled "two new 48-port 100G switches using an SFP port," which means the 7050SDX4 and the 7050SPX4 provide "investment protection," Hull said. "When they move to these new higher-speed systems, they can still support connecting to their existing compute and prepare for the next generation when it arrives," he explained.

The 7050CX4-24D8 and 7050CX4-40D are built for higher-performance computing like artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) and address key challenges like reducing power, increasing efficiency, improving network security, and meeting sustainability goals.

And "then for customers that are maybe in the vanguard of the transition to the next higher speed," Hull highlighted Arista's 7050CX4M switch and its introduction of 400G and above.

Customer choice remains a significant priority for the vendor. "We don't force them into one decision or the other," he noted. "We can right size to the customer requirements."

Hull touted Arista's breadth of product offerings, flexibility, "the best of protection," and the consistency of the vendor's extensible operating system (EOS) as major differentiators against Arista's competitors.

"Arista continues to accelerate customer adoption of the next generation of server NICs based on PCIe Gen4 with cost effective and power efficient products for the leaf and spine tiers. Our expanded support for 40/50/100/200/400G and new 800G systems with industry standard QSFP and OSFP satisfies customer requirements for large scale cloud networks while maintaining backwards compatibility, satisfying customers large and small," Arista COO Anshul Sadana added.

Arista's 7050X4 and 7060X5 platforms will be available in the first quarter of 2023, and customer testing is currently in progress with large hyperscale and enterprise customers.
