"2023 is the year that for the first time, most enterprises are going to be able to start to deploy quantum-shaped protocols,” John Roese said.

IBM wants to deliver quantum error suppression and mitigation as a product feature in 2024, and integrate error correction beginning in 2026.

The company plans to take advantage of the CHIPS act and other government funding incentives.

The firm expects more than 60% of organizations will have multiple firewall deployments by 2026.

"Encryption is a great example of such a dynamic: quantum technology will be used to both strengthen encryption as well as defeat it," Mike Rogers said.

"In 2023 ... we will see a macro-trend emerge with the adoption of QKD in data centers, IoT, autonomous systems, and 6G,” Chief Strategy Officer Liz Centoni noted.

"The governments have already woken up to it. ... At this time it is almost about being compliant with government mandates," Mamta Gupta said.

D-Wave's recent survey shows the majority of the organizations are already engaging in quantum computing early adopter activities.

"I know in the quantum realm, our biggest challenge is people and the workforce and talent development," Laura Thomas said.

Jungsang Kim shared his insights on how organizations should choose cloud-based and on-premise quantum computing services for their use cases.

"It is only a matter of time before China and the U.S. reach technical parity in quantum computing,” analyst Benjamin Chin said.

MarketsandMarkets projects the quantum machine learning segment to have the highest compound annual growth rate in the coming years.

China plans to start the post-quantum cryptography standardization process this year and expects to begin the commercial migration in 2025.

“The solving of the problem is one thing. But the downstream impact of that and its impact on communities is significant," IBM VP Ray Harishankar said.

“The horizon when we enter the era of what we call cryptographically-relevant quantum machines is getting closer all the time," IBM's Michael Osborne said.

“Governments worry about the capabilities of state-backed hackers and the defense industry fears China’s growing technological prowess," GlobalData's Robert Penman said.

As quantum computing gets closer to reality, agencies and vendors are starting to prepare and recommend next steps.

"At some point in the future, quantum computers will likely be able to implement specific algorithms that can attack some of the current day cryptography," Deloitte's Colin Soutar said.

“When you look at the shared donor that Symantec has imparted on us, we were happy to see Carbon Black and VMware be acquired,” CrowdStrike CFO Burt Podbere said.

“If you look at ransomware, it's a business, it's financially motivated,” CSW CEO Aaron Sandeen said.

"Cybersecurity, which has become a broad sustainability issue, [is] threatening our evolving connected society," Fortinet's Barbara Maigret said.

CrowdStrike’s introduced a centralized dashboard for both Falcon Horizon and Falcon cloud workload protection modules for its cloud security portfolio.

The partnership with Microsoft “is going strong … That's not something that's changed and that's not going to change,” Mandiant CTO Marshall Heilman said.

Both new modules come as CISOs look to consolidate security tools and converge network, endpoint, data, and workload security and telemetry.
