With the increasing competitiveness in the SP market, service providers have more incentive to discover new ways to improve service agility and create a scalable platform made for upselling on-demand services. In order to achieve this, SPs must adapt to their enterprise customer needs to stay relevant. That means updating costly legacy business CPE (customer premises equipment), and migrating to a newer, sleeker, faster platform that can meet the business demands of today’s enterprises.
Use Case Solution
As Brocade’s Robert McBride points out in the video, Brocade vCE architecture replaces the traditional CPE with NIDs, or network interface devices, from one of Brocade’s partners. In doing this, SPs achieve easier troubleshooting at branch locations while seamlessly transitioning standard CPE functions into virtual network functions (VNFs) that are then are hosted either at the central office (CO) or point-of-presence (POP) in the SP infrastructure.
To make this use case a reality, Brocade counts on its ecosystem partners who contribute:
- NIDs that replace existing CPEs
- Virtualized infrastructure management at both the central office and point-of-presence locations
- Management and orchestration (MANO) models to provide provisioning, monitoring, and management of VNFs
With its vCE solution, Brocade offers a longer equipment lifecycle while easing troubleshooting and truck rolls. vCE also lends itself to additional advantages, including more malleability for add-on solutions and a lower overhead for troubleshooting.
Brocade’s unique product line is instrumental to delivering vCE, as the vRouter acts as the core VNF by offering routing, VPN, and firewall in one package. vRouter is also able to contribute high efficiency for packet handling, which enables a smaller footprint deployment with higher densities of vCE instances per server.
