The software-defined data center promises automated infrastructures that deliver an optimized application experience. At the center of this highly orchestrated future is open source. This DemoFriday™ brings together Plexxi’s programmable network, OpenDaylight’s open source controller platform, and scalable visibility from Real Status’ Hyperglance for OpenDaylight to open up new infrastructure capabilities across multivendor environments.
Plexxi and Real Status Application Abstractions Using OpenDaylight and Real Status Visualization Synopsis:
This demo combines Plexxi’s optically connected switches built around a controller-based architecture with OpenDaylight’s software-defined controller. The presenters also highlight how they use Real Status’ Hyperglance for OpenDaylight, a network visibility and management platform, to provide a comprehensive 3D view of the network from end to end.
Plexxi’s Nils Swart (strategy and business development, Plexxi), Derick Winkworth (product management, Plexxi), and Stace Hipperson (CTO, Real Status) show how OpenDaylight’s Affinity Metadata Service can be used to translate broad application abstraction into specific network behavior, specifically:
- Flow detection and tagging using OpenDaylight’s stats management capabilities with OVS
- Automated Affinity creation in OpenDaylight
- Dynamic elephant flow offload through flow isolation
- Dynamic flow redirect to enable service chaining
- Application abstraction using OpenDaylight and Visualization
- Tap functionality
- Flow monitoring and troubleshooting
