In this installment of DemoFriday™, Plexxi and Solidfire show how they integrated their products to deliver an SDN storage solution that delivers the type of QoS guarantees required to truly monetize the cloud. SDN goes beyond theoretical discussions as Bernino Lind, COO of CloudSigma, joins the demo to discuss how his company is using the joint solution to gain a competitive advantage.
SDN Storage Demo Synopsis: Plexxi and SolidFire
The demo shows how Plexxi, creator of affinity-driven networking solutions, joined forces with SolidFire, producer of all-solid-state storage systems designed for cloud infrastructure, to combine a programmable network and a QoS-capable storage solution. With guaranteed bandwidth allocations, the tighter API linkage between the network and storage infrastructure helps maximize application performance and minimize network infrastructure inefficiency. The result: An SDN storage solution for the cloud with QoS guarantees.
The combination of these two – a programmable network and a QoS-capable SDN storage solution – extends the value of SDN beyond just the network. This DemoFriday™ demonstrates how data harvested from a SolidFire storage cluster can be used by the Plexxi controller to help ensure that the network is complicit in delivering against storage SLAs. This demonstration is about using SDN to drive actual business value.
Plexxi’s Colin Ross (Senior Systems Engineer) and SolidFire’s Adam Carter (Director of Product Management) will cover:
- Manual and automatic host discovery
- Defining conversations using the Affinity construct
- Harvesting SolidFire cluster information to automatically establish intra-cluster relationships
- Using affinities to isolate storage traffic
- Guaranteeing SDN storage performance
