If you still haven’t downloaded the SDxCentral Virtual Edge Report, grab your copy before exploring the Versa SD-WAN webinar on NFV PoCs.
In this event hosted by SDxCentral founder Roy Chua, Versa Networks‘ Vice President of Product Darrell Long, and Ciena’s Senior Director of Marketing (Blue Planet division) Recep Ozdag combine their expertise as they present the top lessons learned from NFV PoCs.
Who is interested in vCPE? What are the common vCPE deployment types? Where can vCPE be deployed? Such questions regarding the adoption of vCPE are answered leading into the Versa SD-WAN webinar.
Network function virtualization (NFV) is widely adopted among service providers around the world. Virtualized network functions (VNFs) in particular are enabling more agility and better economics of managed services. Such result are backed up by dozens of PoCs that took place over the last 12 months. Furthermore, target use cases like vCPE and managed SD-WAN are making the jump from PoC to field trials and even early production deployments.
However every new technology comes with it’s drawbacks and there are lots of challenges associated with the creation of production-ready services. For NFV and managed services, such challenges include:
- The integration with existing operations support system (OSS)/ business support systems (BSS) environments
- Setting up orchestration for agile operations
- Selecting the right infrastructure at both customer premises and provider edge, and more.
A proper utilization of NFV can result in great business outcomes for managed services — far better agility in both creating and provisioning new services, much lower total cost of operations (TCO) and increased service profits, and higher overall revenue through the ability to create richer, as well as more targeted, services.
