To understand what is expected from the solutions that make up the CI and HCI market we surveyed the SDxCentral community. We asked specifically about converged data center solutions, which we defined as “a hardware platform that integrates compute, networking, and storage functionality for the purpose of building out a data center.”
Converged Data Center Solutions Today
40% of respondents this year have deployed some type of converged data center solution with another 28% expecting to use them within the next year. 32% have no plans to use converged data center solutions.
When probed on the factors that are stopping them from deploying a converged solution, 35% said they had “no budget,” clarifying that moving to a converged infrastructure would take more budget than they had; 37% thought the “benefits were unclear” and they didn’t see how making the move to converged solutions was advantageous; 30% noted “modularity constraints,” indicating they preferred to incrementally add compute, network and storage functionality; 27% said they had “insufficient information” on converged solutions, so they were unable to make a determination on whether they would be useful to them; and 20% didn’t see and easy way to “integrate” the solutions into their existing infrastructure.
