To get a feel for the pulse within the SDx ecosystem, SDxCentral Research team conducted a survey in December 2016 of the SDxCentral community. We asked key questions regarding next-generation operations support systems (OSS) and lifecycle service orchestration (LSO) software. The survey defined LSO software “as integrating OSS systems with software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) to deliver automated provisioning, management, and monitoring of network services.” There was a total of 50 participants who characterized their organizations as small to medium businesses (38%), large enterprises (28%) and service providers (24%).
Survey Analysis – OSS and LSO Vendors
When asked which vendors they considered to be leaders in the next-gen OSS and Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO) software space, only Cisco got a majority vote, at 52%. With the ability to choose all that applied in their opinion, the other predominance of votes went to Ciena (Blue Planet) at 30%, Ericsson at 28%, NEC/Netcracker and Nokia at 24% each, and Amdocs at 20%.
Survey Analysis – Current Deployments
When asked which OSS vendors their organizations were currently using, Cisco came out on top at 38%. After Cisco, the field was fairly open, with only Amdocs, Ericsson, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), and Nokia reaching 18% or greater penetration.
