Network virtualization continues to evolve at a rapid clip and the role of SDN controllers has changed in terms of their prominence and go-to-market models. We expect to see SDN controllers not sold as standalone platforms but as part of overall solutions. Over time, we also anticipate that NV itself will be folded into the orchestration and management stacks for clouds: private, hybrid and public.
We see public cloud services and container clusters changing how application developers and IT operations teams build and deploy new applications, with material ramifications for data center networks. And we expect the use of cloud container services to drive IT operations (and developers) to further understand available networking options and plan accordingly. Indeed, the number of open source and commercial projects designed to optimize container networking attests to both its intricacy and rapidly changing technology.
