OVN complements the existing capabilities of OVS to add native support for virtual network abstractions, such as virtual L2 and L3 overlays and security groups. Some high level features of OVN include 1) virtual networking abstraction for OVS, implemented using L2 and L3 overlays, 2) OVN supports flexible ACLs (security policies) implemented using flows that use OVS connection tracking, 3) OVN natively supports distributed L3 routing using OVS flows, and more.
