Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV) facilitates the development and evolution of NFV components across various open source ecosystems. Through system level integration, deployment and testing, OPNFV constructs a reference NFV platform to accelerate the transformation of enterprise and service provider networks. Goals include accelerating time to market for NFV solutions, ensuring the platform meets the industry’s needs, and enabling end user choice in specific technology components.

Danube, OPNFV’s latest release, brings DevOps methodologies to NFV via collaborative upstream development, integration, deployment, and significant Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) testing automation. Danube also includes continued incremental improvements in baseline features, new advances in network control capabilities, and a growing focus on performance-related topics – especially NFV data plane performance, and instrumentation around MANO functions.

The OPNFV Plugfest and co-located Hackfest in December 2016 brought together 70 participants from 23 different organizations. The international group, traveling in from Asia, Europe, and North America, converged at the UNH InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) in Durham, NH for a full week of activities. Deployment testing combined on-site hardware resources from Huawei, Lenovo, and Nokia, and off-site resources from ENEA, Huawei, Intel, and NEC.
