netElastic vPE is the industry’s first virtual MPLS Provider Edge router. vPE enables carriers to extend their MPLS capabilities using commercial x86 hardware that can easily and cost-effectively scale. netElastic’s vPE router is designed around an SDN architecture with completely separated control and data planes for maximum scalability and flexibility.
The vPE architecture allows for many use cases that would not normally be feasible with traditional hardware PE routers. As an example, vPE can run on a very low-cost x86 server making it cost effective for very small deployments. As your customer base grows, the host server can be upgraded to easily support additional customers and performance.
The flexibility of netElastic vPE software is unmatched. Separate control and data plane VMs allows each to be scaled independently for maximum flexibility. The control plane can be scaled to match the features, network size, and VRFs needed. The data plane can be scaled from a single 10Gbps interface up to 80Gbps or more.
For larger networks, the vPE data plane can be moved to a whitebox SDN switch for even more bandwidth capacity. Using this model, the vPE can scale to 300Gbps and eventually terabits per second. The deployment flexibility of vPE makes it ideal for small markets as well as large networks and can easily adapt as network needs change.
