6WIND Virtual Accelerator is hypervisor acceleration software for Linux KVM that provides accelerated virtual switching and networking features for virtual infrastructures to enable Network Function Virtualization (NFV), data center virtualization and network appliance virtualization. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator works with existing Linux and OpenStack flavors to deliver 20 Gbps throughput per processor core without SR-IOV, PCI passthrough, or any changes to the infrastructure.
6WIND Virtual Accelerator creates high performance NFV Infrastructure. It runs inside the KVM hypervisor domain and removes Linux performance bottlenecks by offloading virtual switching from the Linux networking stack. Tests in live OpenStack environments show that popular VNFs can achieve performance boosts of up to 5x and 20 Gbps throughput without SR-IOV or any changes to the application. By offloading packet processing to dedicated processor cores, VM density increases on existing servers.
