Active Broadband Networks Software-Defined Broadband Network Gateway
The Software-Defined Broadband Network Gateway (SD-BNG) is an SDN- and NFV-based broadband edge platform. The BNG functionality provided in legacy provider edge routers has been moved into software, enabling edge functionality to be fully virtualized. In addition to forwarding, it also provides other essential and optional components traditionally provided by heterogeneous OSS software compoents, re-factored into an SDN controller platform. An SD-BNG consists of the Active Resource Controller (ARC) and Active Programmable Gateway (APG).
The SD-BNG provides an “all-software”-based alternative to hardware-based BNGs and the associated heterogeneous OSS platforms used to manage service, and offers the following advantages:
