Control Plane Intelligence for Network Policy ControlThe Service Delivery Engine (SDE) is a virtualized policy controller that offers a standards-compliant PCRF and performs control plane functions that enable Policy and Charging Control (PCC) in multi-vendor, multi-access networks.
The Sandvine Policy Engine is embedded within both the SDE and the Policy Traffic Switch (PTS), giving the control plane and the data plane an equivalent understanding of the policy control to be applied. This unique design has the added benefit that policy is defined in one location, the Policy Engine, and is then applied uniformly. The Policy Engine allows the SDE to fulfill many service innovation use cases, including quota management and application tiers, without needing a third-party PCRF.
The SDE also offers a 3GPP Release 11-compliant PCRF, complete with a Diameter Gx out interface, letting it serve as the policy decision interface to external network elements and systems. In a Policy and Charging Control (PCC) deployment, the SDE signals enforcement to, and collects usage from, any 3GPP-compliant PCEF using Diameter Gx.
