With SAMTEST service providers can measure various performance metrics, utilizing a combination of physical and virtual probes. SAMTEST Virtual probes can be easily spun on various measurement nodes either distributed (at customer premise) or centralized (at the aggregation node). Using virtual probes, reduces the investment in hardware and the associated truck-roll while testing. It also provides flexibility to easily scale up or scale down the test topologies in the field.

In addition to pre-deployment and turn-up testing, it is also important to monitor services and network functions either on an ongoing basis. Monitoring virtual environments is more complex than their physical equivalents because NFV servers are expected to contain dozens of service chains and hundreds of network functions. SAMTEST provides the capability to implement performance monitoring of virtual network functions (VNFs) such as vCPE, vRouter etc. for throughput, latency and jitter. This traffic visibility in virtual network infrastructures, allows users to identify and isolate potential network issues that could affect performance.
