Radisys NFVI Solution
Radisys NFVI solution is a combination of the DCEngine and FlowEngine product portfolio. DCEngine is a carrier grade, OCP-compliant, hyperscale datacenter solution. It consists of pluggable components of compute, storage and networking – which can be seamlessly customized to support the specific needs of service providers. DCEngine’s modular and open architecture enables service providers to scale on demand, depending on the evolving business landscape.
On the compute and storage front, Radisys provides highly ruggedized hardware sleds, which contain densely populated CPUs and disks. This enables customers to pack-in higher horsepower in the same form factor – leading to significant cost savings in the datacenter in the form of space and power.
Increasingly, service providers are deploying solutions that provide an aggregated real-time view and monitoring of physical and virtual components across multiple data centers to optimize network resources. The latest offering of the Radisys NFVI solution, DCEngine Management Software 1.0 Suite simplifies resource management and enables the dynamic composition of resources based on workload specific demand. Service providers can use this software to provision real-time smart dashboard monitoring to learn which, and in what manner, resources are being utilized and make real-time adjustments as needed.
Radisys’ NFVI Solution networking resources are offered in the form of a powerful switching fabric known as FlowEngine. FlowEngine is a next-generation SDN-enabled switching infrastructure, which is closely integrated and aligned with DCEngine.
FlowEngine offers massive scalability and flexibility through open APIs. These APIs enable a northbound SDN controller to manage and orchestrate IP flows – thus enabling advanced requirements of network service chaining, flow control, quality of service classifications as well as on-demand elastic scaling. By deploying FlowEngine, the service provider can program intelligent service chains to perform traffic shaping and load balancing. FlowEngine TDE-2000 provides a cutting-edge addition to the NFVI solution, offering the following features:
– Incorporates 2.0 Tbps L2-L3 and 600 Gbps of bidirectional flow-based intelligent load balancing with additional capacity for L4-L5 subscriber and user services.
– Distributes millions of data sessions into thousands of VNFs, processing large volumes of data traffic in real-time as a front-end to these VNF resources, distributing traffic session flows to only the VNF resources that are needed to satisfy a specific service function for a subscriber’s specific service request.
– Delivers high performance data plane processing.
– Supports versatile traffic distribution for key service provider and datacenter use cases such as traffic steering, traffic shaping and security to dedicated network resource platforms.
– Minimized network latency and maximized network utilization as well as, increases network and security analytics.
Radisys’ DCEngine is the industry’s first open hardware platform based on the Open Compute Project (OCP) CG-OpenRack-19 specification. Radisys is a primary contributor to the development of the CG-OpenRack-19 specification, which achieved OCP-ACCEPTED status in December 2016. CG-OpenRack-19 is a scalable, carrier-grade rack level system that integrates high performance compute, storage and networking in a standard 19-inch rack. DCEngine provides some of the widest choice for compute and storage sleds of currently available NFVI platforms. Service providers can choose from any OCP-compliant sled provided by suppliers. All of these sleds can seamlessly plug into the CG-OpenRack-19 compliant DCEngine rack.
DCEngine also offers a flexible software and management framework based on leading open source projects including the Open Network Operating System (ONOS) and Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter (CORD) initiatives spearheaded by ON.Lab. Radisys’ CORD combines a deployable hardware blueprint together with a complete open source open stack and suite of professional services to enable service providers to quickly leverage the benefits of commodity building blocks in their central office transformation projects.
