The NSI collects network configuration, traffic and routing information from the edge BGP routers, using standard protocols: BGP, SNMP, NetFlow/jFlow or sFlow. Based on this information, NSI automatically starts active performance tests (round trip delay, packet loss ratio) to the top destinations that matters most for the customer’s business. Performance tests do not require any configuration, because suitable responding targets in remote networks are automatically discovered. Results are continuously processed, and performance degradations due to non-optimal BGP routing are promptly detected and corrected by sending standard BGP commands to the site’s border routers. NSI acts as a BGP-WAN SDN controller that automates the traffic engineering at the network edge.
